“A kiss can be a comma, a question mark, or an exclamation point…” ~Mistinguett

Dear Universe,

I’ve heard of Arbor Day, Flag Day, National Twinkie Day and even Penguin Awareness Day.

But every now and then I hear of a random holiday I never knew existed.  That’s what happened yesterday.

I was on Twitter when I noticed “National Kissing Day” was trending.  That’s right.  (So I guess it was fitting I wrote about Love Locks on a romantic holiday, even though it wasn’t on purpose.)

I had to read more so I googled and sure enough, it was true!  July 6th is National Kissing Day or International Kissing Day.  All I know is it seems to have started in the U.K, is recognized in Canada, the U.S and maybe some other parts of the world.

It’s supposed to remind us of how essential and sweet kissing can be and…. well, the details are sketchy, but I guess we can all use our imagination.  If you need some more substantial reasons then you can always fall back on the health benefits of kissing.

Even though it’s a day late, so what?  Why not pucker up, reach out and kiss someone?  Or peck, canoodle, smack, snog, smooch or whatever word you like.  (Preferably someone you know.)  After all, some say a kiss is worth a thousand words—as long as it’s not the kiss of death, that is.

I’ll be sure to mark my calendar so I don’t miss this day next year.  Oh, also something worth noting?  My birthday falls on the Feast of Fabulous Wild Men Day (January 12th).  That made me laugh.  Not sure what exactly that means so I’ll reserve comment until some proper fieldwork has been conducted.  Hey, it’s only right.

But for now I’ll concentrate my energies on today.  July 7th—Chocolate Day!  No, I’m not making this up.  Chocolate Day is for real, folks.  A day for kissing followed by a day for chocolate?  Universe, whoever thought this up deserves a thank you, a kiss or better yet—a chocolate kiss.

So, thank you! xx

With Gratitude,

A
