Lately I’ve been thinking about what it means to be blissful.
To me, bliss is more than happiness, more than joy. Yes, it’s being happy and joyful, but it’s also being at peace. It’s the moment when you look around and you are surrounded by the people you care about most, you are doing what you love, and you wouldn’t change a thing.
Of course, depending on when you are reading this, you may be thinking: Yes, that’s me! That’s how I feel right now. Or you may be thinking, I really wish that could be me.
I believe we are meant to be blissful and live life to our happiest, highest good. But I think sometimes we spend our time waiting—waiting for our bliss to show up at our door (it probably won’t), waiting for something to change (instead of accepting things the way they are now), or just waiting for an epiphany that will make everything come into place (how often does that happen?)
Waiting is a great way to pass the time, but it often doesn’t get you anywhere. (Tweet that!)
But the good news is this: I believe that at any given moment our bliss is waiting for us to step up, rise to the occasion, shift our focus, make a choice and meet it.
And while I also believe in fate and destiny, I don’t know if I believe there’s one set path to arrive at what’s meant for us.
Looking back on my own life, I sometimes feel like I went off course, took a few detours, just to end up back where I was supposed to be all along.
Instead of feeling upset or wishing I had made different choices, I actually find a certain comfort in that. It makes me feel like no matter what I do or where I go, what’s meant for me will not pass me by. It’s freeing to believe that I will end up exactly where I’m meant to be, maybe not on my own time, but in perfect time.
Here’s the tricky thing.
In my day to day life I tend to forget that philosophy. Instead, I often find myself worrying. I worry about things not working out the way I want them to. I worry about taking a risk that will lead me astray or making a choice that may not be best for me. I worry, I worry and I worry… way more than I should.
I think a lot of us do that.
I wish we wouldn’t, though. I wish we could be a little more carefree (not completely, just a little) about the future and trust that life is working out in perfect order.
I wish we would follow our bliss more and not worry about all the things that may or may not go wrong because—spoiler alert—a lot of times things go right.
I wish we would remember what it feels like to be in a state of bliss so we would trust ourselves and push ourselves to do what feels right deep down inside to obtain that feeling again—or to maintain it so it’s not just a fleeting moment.
That means making tough decisions now and then, and it may also mean not worrying about what others may think of those choices.
Believe me, I’m not trying to oversimplify this. I know I’m asking a lot.
I’m asking to let go of worry and to trust with complete conviction that somehow this maze we’re traveling in, all connects: one entrance, one exit, so many ways to go in between.
I’m asking for us to believe that anything at any moment is possible. I’m asking us to trust in ourselves, to look for the connections, and to believe in destiny, to believe in miracles.
I’m asking us to stop waiting for the time to feel right because right now, the time is right.
I’m asking a lot.
But it’s all because of this simple thing I want you to remember: Your bliss is worth it.
Your bliss is waiting for you.
