Marty McFly: Wait a minute, Doc. Ah… Are you telling me that you built a time machine… out of a DeLorean?
Doc: The way I see it, if you’re gonna build a time machine into a car, why not do it with some style?
Dear Universe,
Today I want to let you know how grateful I am for traveling… specifically time traveling.
All year long I have been joking with one of my close friends about how amazing it would be to have a DeLorean. That way I could leap into the future, see myself and know that all the hard, emotional work I am doing now will pay off later. In this fantasy, I envision future me looking back and thanking present day me. I mentioned the DeLorean and this scenario so much that my friend, unable to deliver a time machine, just sent me the next best thing—Back to the Future on DVD.
I wanted to watch it before I do some real traveling. In a couple of days I leave for London and Paris. I am so appreciative to be able to travel since it’s one of my favorite things to do.
But sitting here watching Back to the Future I’ve come to a realization that got me even more excited about my upcoming trip. As I travel abroad to London I will be hours ahead of where I am now. This means that come New Year’s Eve, I get to finish 2011 and start 2012 hours earlier than if I had stayed home. A silly thought maybe, but still one that makes me smile.
So I may not have a tricked up DeLorean with a flux capicator, but I still got my wish. I’m time traveling… sort of.
Thank you,
A
*Update: Back to the Future has been playing on television here in London! Every time I catch some it, I smile. Thank you!
