Sometimes it’s nice to have a quiet night in with the girls. Watching movies, snacking on popcorn, eating late night ice cream and catching up on the latest news in each other’s lives is always a good time.
But it’s been done. We’ve seen Dirty Dancing so many times we know the exact place to pause to catch the slightest glimpse of Patrick Swayze’s derriere (1hr 4min) and we’ve wept so much watching Terms of Endearment you would think Debra Winger was related to us.
It felt time for a different sort of girls’ night in. One with good food, good wine and…tarot. That’s right. Tarot readings and maybe even a few yes or no swings of the pendulum.
So I lit candles, poured a glass of wine, played some Adele (she is British, you know) and whipped up a more sophisticated menu. Puff pastry with melted brie, cranberries and almonds; fried eggplant stacks with melted mozzarella, basil, tomato and a balsamic glaze; and an arugula, beet salad sprinkled with goat cheese and crushed pistachios. All pretty tasty choices I have to say.
Then the evening really began. I set up decks upon decks to choose from. Want an uplifting message? Try the Angel Deck. Need a quick, reassuring message? Ask the Fairies. Bold enough to ask a romance question this close to Valentine’s Day? Shuffle up the love tarot.
The only rule? Don’t take yourself too seriously and just have fun with it. And whenever that’s the only rule to play by, it’s almost a guarantee that laughs will be had and fun memories made.
Thanks for an enjoyable night. It may become a new tradition to add to the mix.
Now that I think about it though, it has been a while… I think I may have to go watch Dirty Dancing, after all.
With Gratitude,
A
