For the last several months, I’ve found myself taking on a new mantra. Sometimes once a day or sometimes every hour the words, “It is what it is” come to mind.
I say it or think it so much that I even wear a necklace that has the words engraved.
It’s a universal mantra that I’ve found works in lots of different scenarios. Whether I’ve come across something completely bizarre, am overloaded with work or there’s something upsetting me that I have no control over, reminding myself of these five simple words can help me to move on from the moment, to not dwell on what’s happening.
They can propel me up out of a downward spiral, forcing me to return to better thoughts or more productive actions. Sometimes they remind me to not do anything at all—and that can be enough.
I think the phrase is catching on. First, I found the necklace and then I saw this decorative sign. That must mean that other people are finding some meaning behind the words too. I’ve even started to notice people around me saying it more—could it be I’m rubbing off on them? 🙂
For whatever the reason, the words work. They remind me that sometimes it’s best to just let something go instead of trying to hold on, trying to explain it, trying to understand.
I could go on and on giving examples of why these words mean something to me, but really when it comes down to it…
It is what it is.
With Gratitude,
A
