I read The Lovely Bones years ago and it instantly became one of my favorite books at the time. Today, I discovered this quote from the book and hope stirred in me.
“Sometimes the dreams that come true are the dreams you never even knew you had.” ~Alice Sebold
My life certainly hasn’t worked out the way I dreamed it would. It has been full of speed bumps, potholes and crater-sized tragedies. It seems whenever I think I have it all figured out is exactly when Life taps me on my shoulder, throws a mountain in my path and asks, “Well…what are you going to do now?”
But whose life doesn’t have moments like that?
So what if what I imagined as a young girl is not even close to my day to day reality? In many ways the things I never expected to happen have turned into my greatest blessings. The unforeseen dips have inspired new dreams–most even more thrilling and satisfying than anything I could have imagined years ago.
Universe, today I thank you for keeping me open-minded. Thank you for not letting me become a bitter, cynical, angry person. Yes, I have my low moments, but they never last long. Please keep sending me inspiration and guidance. In turn I will do my best to recognize opportunities and to be driven in new directions.
And the next time a mountain pops up, I’ll try to remind myself that it just means new dreams are about to unfold.
Thank you,
A
