“To everything – turn, turn, turn
There is a season – turn, turn, turn
And a time for every purpose under heaven…” ~The Byrds
Dear Universe,
It seems I spent most of the past six months wishing for spring and summer to be here.
March went on with its sluggish pace as it always seems to. April fooled and teased with one warm day followed by weeks of frigid winds and cold.
And here we are in May.
I left May 1st for Martha’s Vineyard and when I returned it seemed like everything, all at once, had finally changed.
Trees and flowers were screaming for attention. What were buds when I left, were now luscious leaves of greens. Branches and stems popped out with petals of pale pinks, fuchsias and ruby reds.
But that wasn’t all. A road near me had been repaved. Gone was the dull-gray, bumpy surface; it had been replaced with smooth, black, blemish free tar. And the construction site close by that has been worked on for months? Well, it looks almost complete.
I went around pointing out these changes to anyone who would listen with the enthusiasm of a five-year-old who just discovered bubble gum.
It made me laugh a bit. For months I had been waiting. Waiting for the trees to bloom, for the temperatures to rise, waiting for summer to get here… and all it took was fourteen days.
Fourteen days.
A lot can change in just a couple of weeks. I’ve always known this of course, but for some reason these visual realizations shouting at me, made me remember something important.
Even when we don’t think things are changing, that things are moving forward, they are. It’s a universal law. Nothing stays still.
In times of uncertainty or feeling frozen in place my mom will always remind me of that and say, “The one thing that is certain in life is that life is always changing.”
Seeing that so much can change in fourteen days was a good reminder that little actions can go a long way to make a big difference.
“And that is how change happens. One gesture. One person. One moment at a time.” ~Libba Bray
So are there things you’d like to change? Maybe it’s time to stop wishing and waiting for the right time.
Maybe the time is already here, now.
Thanks for the reminder that each day is a fresh start to work towards a goal, a dream, a wish or a hope. Little by little we travel, move, grow and learn. Little by little a lot can get done, can happen, can turn, turn, turn.
With Gratitude,
A
